HOW TO CHOOSE AN ARMCHAIR FOR YOUR COUCH
Evaluate the size and layout of your living room. Measure the area where you plan to place the armchair to ensure it fits comfortably without overcrowding the space. Consider factors such as the chair's dimensions, including width, depth, and height, as well as any other furniture in the room or architectural elements (a fireplace or gas heater for example) that may impact placement. Unless you’re very good at visualising, it can be a good idea to lay paper on the floor to create the space of the chair – you’ll then see if it sits comfortably within the space and leaves room for movement around the chair and between other furniture.
Comfort is a crucial aspect of selecting an armchair – there’s nothing quite like a comfy armchair to curl up in. Look for a chair with adequate padding and cushioning to provide a cosy and supportive seat. Consider the seat depth and height to ensure a comfortable fit for your body – what is comfortable for a taller person may not be the ideal choice for a shorter person. If possible, test the chair by sitting in it to assess that the comfort level and support are what you are looking for.
Style and aesthetics are also important factors to consider. What colour palette would make you happy? Would you prefer an eye-catching style armchair or a plainer style that you can mix and match accessories with to change the look from season to season?
The armchair should complement the overall decor and theme of your room. What is your desired style? Is it modern, traditional, contemporary, Scandinavian, rustic, or eclectic? When you decide on your style, you can look for chairs that align with that aesthetic.
We offer a variety of armchair options to suit any style or need. In a smaller space, opt for a slimline design with legs and a see-through nature rather than a solid base – this will create a sense of space – our Cronulla, Jonas and Finch armchairs all meet these criteria with their light and airy designs.
If you prefer your sofas and chairs to match, our comfortable Kandos, Dromana, and Sorrento armchairs all have a matching sofa. Without a statement armchair, you’ll need to rely on textures and colours of accessories like rugs, cushions, throws and even table lamps to inject some visual interest into your room. A large piece of artwork in the living room can be the statement piece you need – especially if you’ve chosen neutral shades for your furniture.
DO ARMCHAIRS HAVE TO MATCH THE SOFA?
Absolutely not! For more impact, choose an armchair in a material that contrasts with your sofa.
Mixing different colours and textures on furniture in a room adds interest. A statement armchair, (whether it’s the fabric, colour or style), can add the finishing touch to any room, and we have a few to choose from. Our popular Khadi armchairs come in a wide selection of colours, patterns and fabrics, and our deconstructed Wolfgang armchair will certainly stand out and make a statement. If you prefer a traditional style, our elegant velvet Amadeus and French armchairs are the perfect choices. They can also enhance the beauty of a bedroom. These armchairs can be used as statement pieces to reflect your personal style.”
Whatever your preferences there’s a chair for you that will add the perfect finishing touch to your living room and once you’ve made your choice and brought your new armchair into your home, all you’ll need to do is sit back, relax and enjoy it.
