MATERIAL CARE

At Provincial Home Living our furniture and homewares collections are designed to be passed down through the generations - beautiful but not precious, they are intended to be used and enjoyed daily by the whole family. Over their lifetime, our products will need a little care and attention to ensure they can be enjoyed by generations to come. Please reach out to our Customer Service team if you have further questions.

Furniture

Our furniture is crafted from carefully selected materials, chosen for both their appearance and durability.
We recommend using adhesive felt protectors or vinyl sliders on the feet of all furniture to protect floors, carpets, and rugs.

Painted, lacquered, or waxed finish timber

At Provincial Home Living, we are committed to using ethically sourced timber from sustainable origins, to bring a positive change to our planet and the communities we buy from.

Timber furniture has been used in homes for centuries. It’s an extremely beautiful, versatile, and tactile natural material. Every piece of timber has unique grains, knots, and colours - these qualities become a beautiful feature of the new piece of furniture.

While timber is growing it is influenced by its environment and even after it has been crafted into furniture and found a place in your home, it may continue to react. Timber furniture may expand and contract with sudden changes in temperature and humidity, so don’t be alarmed to see some movement as the furniture settles into your home and the new environment. This will continue when you turn up the heating or the seasons change and is considered a normal response.

Our Furniture Wax Kit, produced from an old Dutch recipe, will help to maintain and enhance the beauty and patina of our wooden furniture pieces. To remove dust and dirt, wipe your timber furniture with a soft, damp cloth then with a dry cloth. We recommend avoiding harsh chemicals, abrasive, or silicone-based cleaning materials on timber furniture pieces. Wipe liquid spills as soon as possible to avoid staining. Hot dishes should not be placed directly onto wooden or painted surfaces. Take care when moving any items sitting on the surface of timber furniture to avoid scratching.

Painted surfaces may fade over time when exposed to sunlight, so keep painted furniture out of direct light where possible.

Reclaimed Timber

At Provincial Home Living we source our reclaimed timber from all around the world. Our reclaimed timber can be salvaged from unused buildings and bridges, old wine barrels, butcher’s blocks, and many other unique places. Each piece of reclaimed timber is different, proudly displaying the patina and scars of its previous life. These unique qualities become a beautiful feature of the new piece of furniture.

Reclaimed Teak – Outdoor

Teak is one of the most desired woods for outdoor furniture because of its natural weather resistance and beautiful honey-brown colour. At Provincial Home Living, our teak furniture is crafted from A-Grade reclaimed teak which does not require any living trees to be cut. With minimal care, teak furniture will last for generations.

Our reclaimed teak is lacquer and wax free. Over time, the teak will take on a beautiful weathered grey hue.

We recommend blotting spills as soon as possible to avoid staining. Hot dishes should not be placed directly onto wooden surfaces. Take care when moving any items sitting on the surface of timber furniture to avoid scratching. If covering teak furniture for the Winter, please ensure the covering is breathable.

Our Outdoor Timber Care Kit will help to clean and maintain the beauty and patina of our outdoor timber furniture. The kit contains everything you need to effortlessly protect against elements, ensuring lasting beauty for your outdoor furniture.

Rattan

Rattan is an extremely versatile and durable natural material that can be woven into a variety of beautiful patterns and shapes. At Provincial Home Living, all of our rattan furniture pieces are handwoven by skilled artisans.

To remove dust and dirt, wipe your rattan furniture with a soft, damp cloth or vacuum on a low setting. Rattan may fade over time when exposed to sunlight, so keep furniture out of direct light where possible. We recommend avoiding harsh chemicals, abrasive, or silicone-based cleaning materials on rattan pieces. Rattan is not suitable to be left exposed to the elements - we recommend storing furniture in a covered position such as under a patio or verandah.

Powder Coated Metal

Powder coating is a dry coating process used as a metal finish. Powder is applied to the metal through an electrostatic process, then cured with heat. Powder coating provides high-quality finishes in terms of both functionality and overall appearance.

Regularly wipe metal with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and dirt which may abrade the surface. We recommend avoiding harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning products on metal furniture pieces. The powder coating may fade over time when exposed to sunlight, so keep furniture out of direct light where possible. Hot dishes should not be placed directly onto metal surfaces.

Marble

Marble is one of the oldest and most beautiful stones available. Historically, marble has been used for sculpture, as a building material, and for decorative pieces. The beautiful, natural veining inherent to marble means each piece is totally unique.

Marble is naturally porous, making it susceptible to staining - be particularly careful with anything acidic (wine, citrus, vinegar). Wipe up spills immediately with a soft, damp cloth then with a dry cloth - do not allow liquids to sit. Marble can be cleaned with gentle dish detergent, warm water, and a soft cloth, or with specialist marble cleaning products. We recommend avoiding harsh chemicals (such as bleach) or abrasive cleaning products on our marble pieces. Take care when moving any items sitting on the surface of the marble to avoid scratching – the use of coasters and placemats is recommended.

Upholstered Furniture

At Provincial Home Living, we use a variety of carefully chosen fabrics for our upholstered furniture including linen, cotton, and velvet. Each fabric is selected for its appearance, durability, and suitability for the individual furniture piece.

Linen is a unique natural fibre, and the colour may vary slightly from season to season. If you would like to purchase multiple pieces in a particular colour at different times, please contact us prior to purchase and we will do our best to ensure a colour match.

We recommend using a professional dry-cleaner to clean all our upholstered furniture pieces, including those with removable slip-covers. Replacement covers are available to purchase for selected Provincial Home Living ranges. Treat any spills as soon as possible by blotting the fabric with a clean, dampened, white cloth. Do not rub as this may damage the fabric. Difficult stains should be treated by a specialist.

We recommend vacuuming upholstered furniture weekly with a soft bristle brush attachment. If required, a lint roller can be used. Upholstered furniture may fade over time when exposed to sunlight. To maintain the colour of the fabric, keep out of direct light where possible.

With use, cushion fillings in sofas and armchairs will settle and seat foam will soften over time. We recommend fluffing cushions regularly and rotating or swapping cushions around to keep them looking their best. Where possible, turn them over so both sides are used.

Bone Inlay

Bone inlay is visually stunning with beautiful and unique patterns - no two pieces are ever the same. At Provincial Home Living, our bone inlay furniture is handcrafted, with some pieces taking over four weeks to complete.

Bone for our furniture pieces is sourced from camels in the Jodhpur region of India. We ensure we use materials that have only come from animals that have passed naturally. As this is a predominantly Hindu area of India, the bone is considered waste material and would otherwise not be used. We have only ordered limited quantities of this range to ensure ongoing sustainable sourcing practices and to allow time for the intricate craftsmanship that makes each piece so special and unique.

To remove dust and dirt, wipe your inlay furniture with a soft, damp cloth then with a dry cloth. We recommend avoiding harsh chemicals, abrasive, or silicone-based cleaning materials on these pieces. Wipe liquid spills as soon as possible. Take care when moving any items sitting on the surface of the furniture to avoid scratching.

Homewares
Our homewares ranges are crafted from carefully selected materials, chosen for both their appearance and durability.
Rugs

Provincial Home Living rugs are hand crafted from premium fibres. Each rug is created by an individual artist and has its own identity and design variations. We ensure no child labour is used in the creation of our rugs.

When your new rug is delivered it may show some creases from being rolled for shipping. After the rug has been laid flat for a while, these creases will disappear. We recommend using a rug mat to prevent the rug from slipping and to provide extra cushioning.

To maintain your rug, we recommend lightly vacuuming at least once a week. Use scissors to clip sprouts and snags. Rugs may fade over time when exposed to sunlight, so keep out of direct light where possible. To extend the life of the rug, we recommend rotating every six months (flipping if reversible) and professional dry-cleaning at least every two years.

Always clean spills immediately so that they do not become set in the rug. In the case of a water/liquid spillage, place towels or cloth over the wet area and put pressure on it with a heavy, colour-fast object. Leave overnight and ensure the rug is dry both on the front and the back. With food spills, remove by scraping gently with a spoon or dull knife.

Antwerp Linen Bedding

Linen is woven from the fibres of the flax plant and is one of the oldest known textiles in the world. At Provincial Home Living, flax for our bed linen ranges is sourced from Belgium, one of the premium suppliers of flax. Linen is a unique natural fibre, and the colour may vary slightly from season to season. If you would like to purchase multiple pieces in a particular colour at different times, please contact us prior to purchase and we will do our best to ensure a colour match.

Linen is naturally supple and temperature regulating, so will keep you warm in Winter and cool in Summer for a perfect night’s sleep. Our range of luxurious linen bedding has been skilfully woven, and vintage washed for softness – though, we recommend washing linen before use. Over time, with laundering its softness will be enhanced even further.

When washing your linen bedding, use cool water and a gentle/delicate cycle. We recommend using liquid detergent. Avoid the use of bleach as this can break down the fibres of the linen. Linen should be line dried – do not tumble dry or dry-clean. Natural creases are one of the many beautiful features of the fabric, we do not recommend ironing natural linen.

Cotton Bed Linen

Since the earliest days of cotton cultivation, this fabric has been prized for its breathability, softness, and lightness. At Provincial Home Living, our cotton bed linen is woven from premium quality cotton.

When washing your cotton bedding, use cool water and a gentle/delicate cycle. We recommend using liquid detergent. Avoid the use of bleach as this can break down the fibres of the cotton. Cotton bedding should preferably be line dried – warm tumble dry or dry-clean. To remove creases, cool iron your bedding.

Coverlets & Shams

At Provincial Home Living, we use a variety of carefully chosen fabrics for our Coverlets & Shams. Each style has specific care instructions that can be found on their labels. Please reach out to our Customer Service team if you have further questions.

Bath Linens

Provincial Home Living bath linens are woven from 100% cotton. Cotton is naturally soft, durable, breathable, and absorbent.

To maximise absorbency, we recommend washing bath linens before use. Use cool water and wash with similar colours. Avoid the use of bleach, optical brighteners, and fabrics softeners as they can reduce the absorbency and softness of bath linens. Be careful with toothcare and facecare that may contain whitening agents. Our cotton bath linens can be line dried or tumble dried.

Cushions

At Provincial Home Living we use RDS (Responsible Down Standard) certified duck feather fill for our cushion inserts. The feathers are responsibly sourced from certified farms. We choose quality feather fill to ensure our cushions appear plump and luxurious. Over time the feathers may start to settle, we recommend fluffing cushions regularly and rotating to keep them looking their best. Where possible, turn them over so both sides are used.

Should you need to launder a cushion, care instructions are located inside the cushion cover. Be sure to remove the feather insert and any embellishments before cleaning. The feather insert will also benefit from airing in the sunshine.

Glass & Mirrors

To remove dust and dirt, wipe with a soft, damp cloth then with a dry cloth. Glass cleaner can be used if needed - spray cleaner directly onto the cloth to avoid spraying on mirror frames. We recommend that our mirrors be hung by an experienced professional.

Take care when moving any items sitting on the surface of glass furniture to avoid scratching.

Wooden/Cheese Boards

Provincial Home Living wooden boards are crafted from a variety of timbers including mango wood, reclaimed elm, rubberwood, and aged barrel oak. We recommend hand washing our wooden boards with a mild detergent. To preserve the quality of the board, oil with food grade oil.
