It was The Block bathroom reveal this week. The contestants could present a full bathroom or a powder room and it was up to them to decide which suited the layout of their homes. There was not much between the final scores this week and Leah and Ash cleverly played their “Gnome card” to take out a much-needed win.
Final Scores:
House 2, Leah and Ash: 28 points (27 points + 1 gnome point) – 1st
House 3, Kristy and Brett: 27.5 points – 2nd
House 1, Kyle and Leslie: 26 points - 3rd
House 4, Steph and Gian: 25 points - equal 4th
House 5, Eliza and Liberty: 25 points - equal 4th
THE BLOCK WINNING BATHROOM – LEAH & ASH
After weeks of harsh feedback from the judges, Leah and Ash finally got things right, with their lavish grey marble bathroom. “These guys love luxe luxury. Expensive!” Shaynna said but was worried that they were spending too much on high-end décor and would run out of money.
They spent $25,389 this week which for the finishes selected, the result and taking home the 1st prize, seemed money well spent. Marty experienced a sense of relief that they had finally heeded their (mostly critical) input regarding previous rooms they had presented and this week it was more in tune with what potential buyers would be looking for.
KRISTY & BRETT
The judges were also full of praise for Kristy and Brett’s room who had spared no expense to try to secure first place this week. Their $33,718 bathroom had lots to like with a fluted glass shower screen, Venetian plaster and lots of elegant tiling … but to the disappointment of the judges, did not run to underfloor heating.
Shaynna enthused: “Kristy and Brett have found their groove!”
Our Lawson stool, was a perfect choice for their bathroom, adding a touch of warmth with the natural timber. We also spied a lovely selection of our towels, and more timber with self-care items from our Immerse range.
KYLE & LESLIE
The judges loved Kyle and Leslie’s compact powder room, with the softly curved walls covered in elegant finger tiles, and of course a smart toilet! Marty commented, “There’s a lot happening in such a small space and it’s all working in harmony.”
They spent money wisely, only spending $18,352 on their clever styling choices and soft colour scheme.
The judges were all in agreement that the decision to downsize the bathroom in this house was the right thing to do and that it really worked because “less is more”.
STEPH & GIAN
Also opting to present a powder room this week were Steph and Gian. They stuck with their signature tonal colour palette and chose to keep things simple and rely on the high-end stone vanity and basin for the wow factor. They were clever in balancing the high spend for the stone with other simple pieces to keep the total at a realistic $24,854.
It’s lucky Keith is not a judge because he was unimpressed by the lack of storage – but how much storage do you need in a powder room?
Marty and Darren had minor concerns about the toilet being the first thing you see in the room.
ELIZA & LIBERTY
Wow – a huge spend of $37,409 and a moss wall – the sisters were in for some brutal comments. The judges didn’t know how to react, they were confused, amused and bemused!
Marty said: “I have literally seen thousands of properties for sale, and I have never seen anything like what I am looking at right now.” Shaynna was also concerned about the bad lighting when she looked in the mirrors, and Darren when pressed for a comment came up with a bad joke “It’s growing on me’. So, Kermit was right when he sang “It’s not easy being green”.
We were happy to spot some of our soaps, and items from our Immerse range in their bathroom – timeless and understated items – perhaps more a look the girls should aim for.
The bathrooms on The Block are always contentious and this week was certainly no different – now we can look forward to next week when we have the living and dining room reveal.
