WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST INTERIOR TRENDS IN 2024?

Before we get on to the biggest interior design trends for 2024 – we should clarify “What is a trend and what is just a fad?” The dictionary definition of a trend is: “a general direction in which something is developing or changing”.

The dictionary definition of a fad is: “an intense and widely shared enthusiasm for something, especially one that is short-lived; a craze”.

The concepts of "trend" and "fad" are frequently confused, yet they carry distinct definitions. A trend emerges gradually, requiring time to gather momentum, and tends to endure. Conversely, a fad experiences a rapid ascent in popularity but swiftly declines. The key difference between a trend and a fad is their power of endurance.

So, while it may be OK to get inspiration for your home from trends – adopting fads may result in making mistakes.

HOW DOES A TREND START?

Trends usually come into existence because of several different factors. Nowadays, influencers, designers, and celebrities play a vital role in launching new ideas and styles, which often become trends. Social media platforms are also instrumental in spreading trends by allowing people to share them quickly and easily. Additionally, cultural changes, technological advancements, and societal shifts can also initiate new trends. Factors such as affordability and accessibility can influence the adoption of specific styles, too. Design fairs, fashion shows, and industry events also serve as platforms for introducing new and innovative concepts that may later become popular trends. In summary, a trend starts to emerge when a concept or idea captures the collective attention and resonates with a wide audience.

Following every trend blindly is not the key to achieving a home design that truly reflects your personality. However, by improving your understanding of colours and drawing inspiration from new ideas, you can express your unique style within your living space.

The interior design trends of 2024 prioritise sustainability. Choose furniture items that promise longevity and will stand the test of time. Incorporate a variety of natural materials, diverse textures, and finishes like dark wood or painted finishes. Embrace quiet luxury.

1. NATURAL MATERIALS

All natural materials give us an instant connection with nature and lend themselves to organic shapes too. The trend of natural woven materials such as rattan and wicker has been steadily growing in recent years and will continue to be popular in 2024. These materials offer a timeless and organic appeal that complements various design styles, from bohemian and coastal to mid-century modern and minimalist and transitions easily between indoors and outdoors.

Overall, the trend of natural, woven materials showcases a desire for sustainable, textural, and visually appealing interior and exterior design elements. By incorporating these materials, you can infuse spaces with a sense of natural beauty and create a harmonious connection to the environment.

These materials are incredibly versatile, lending themselves to a wide range of applications. Rattan and wicker furniture pieces, such as chairs, tables, and storage baskets, can be used in living rooms, bedrooms and outdoor spaces, which is one of the reasons we embrace it with our range of furniture and accessories.

Our range showcases items such as armchairs, bedheads, baskets, hampers, dining chairs a matching table and even a pet bed so you can have every room of the home covered.

2. CURVES TO SOFTEN

There has been a shift in recent years, moving away from straight lines towards curved designs in our homes. Following the pandemic, people are seeking more comfort and softness in their homes, and curved designs offer just that, so we will see greater use of archways and curved walls in buildings. Even if you can't incorporate curves into your home design and structure, you can still embrace this trend by adding a curved sofa in your living room and decorative pieces, such as arched mirrors in living spaces or bedrooms.

3. WORKING FROM HOME SPACES

The trend of working from home seems to be here to stay for a while longer. To be productive and maintain a healthy work-life balance, it is essential to have a dedicated space or room for work. This designated area helps create a separation between personal and professional life, enabling a focused environment for work. Ideally, the workspace should be quiet, well-lit, and equipped with essential office furniture like a desk, chair, and storage, even if it is not a separate room.

Our Hilton Desk and Obernai Library, add a clean, fresh look in your workspace and add instant appeal, plenty of storage and hopefully a touch of inspiration.

4. OUTDOOR LIVING

Another continuing trend that has become such a way of life – can we still call it a trend? Creating extra rooms outdoors, as an extension to the living zones indoors.

Outdoor kitchens, dining areas, lounges, and fire pits have become common additions to homes, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. This trend is driven by a desire for relaxation, entertainment, and connection with nature, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the great outdoors.

Whether it’s a dining room or a sitting room natural materials such as timber, rattan and wicker for furniture and accessories are popular choices, as they immediately look as if they belong outdoors.
