A thoughtfully set Christmas table is really the centrepiece of the holiday season. It goes far beyond just the physical setting and encompasses the entire experience of gathering around the table with loved ones to celebrate this special time of year. The Christmas table represents a place where family and friends come together to celebrate. It's a symbol of unity and togetherness, where people gather to share in the joy of the season. Whether you’re hosting a formal gathering or a more casual affair, take some extra time to set a beautiful table, with all the trimmings!
Choose a colour scheme you love and says “It’s Christmas” to you – even if it doesn’t scream it. Colours like red, green, and white are always popular and this year we’ve named our traditional hued range, Joy, because it is so joyful with jade greens and luscious reds, the colours made for a celebration. Our Alpine range is still very festive with gorgeous soft greens reminiscent of the colours of the Australian bush. These greens are perfect to pair with natural and blue hues and perfect with some metallics for a touch of sparkle. Maybe you already have some favourite decorations – add a couple of new ones to give your scheme a fresh update.
TABLECLOTH, PLACEMATS + RUNNERS
Select a tablecloth, placemats or a runner that suits your theme – or you can use a mixture, layering placemats or a runner over a tablecloth. A crisp, white tablecloth is always a classic choice for formal meals, you can add a coloured runner or even our fabulous red and white check paper runner for a touch of colour and fun – and matches our bonbons!
DINNERWARE
Plain white dinnerware always looks good, but you can add some coloured plates, patterned plates or chargers for an extra layer of decoration. If you’re taking the casual option, and you’re looking for some pretty, patterned paper plates that tie in with the rest of your theme – we have some that will be perfect!
CUTLERY + GLASSWARE
Finish the table setting with cutlery and glassware - clear glassware is always a perfect choice but you can always add some coloured ones that match your theme, or for a casual, child-friendly option - some charming, printed paper cups.
NAPKINS
Decide whether to use fabric serviettes or paper napkins for a more casual option. You can fold napkins, use napkin rings or tie them with Christmas ribbon to add a decorative touch or simply place them neatly beside or on the dinner plates – you can even pop a bauble on each place setting.
PLACE CARD HOLDERS
Add place card holders and carefully written cards, so you can seat people where they can talk easily with someone they have something in common with.
THE PERFECT CENTREPIECE
Now we come to the part when you can let your creativity shine - the centrepiece of the table. The two most important things to consider are: don’t make it too high so you can still see and converse with people on the other side of the table and design it with the menu in mind. If you’re putting shared plates in the middle of the table – you’ll have to plan decorations to leave plenty of space free. However, if you’re plating up in the kitchen or serving a help-yourself buffet – go wild down the centre of the table!

Select from candles, fairy lights, garlands, baubles, flowers and other Christmas decorations and create your showstopping centrepiece.
Remember that setting a beautiful Christmas table is an opportunity to express your creativity and style. Tailor your table decor to your preferences, and the food being served and enjoy the process of creating a festive and inviting space for your loved ones to gather around and celebrate the holiday.
