The term "Hamptons Style" encompasses an interior design and architectural movement that was inspired by the luxurious beach houses found in the Hamptons, a collection of upscale communities situated on the eastern tip of Long Island, New York. This style is renowned for its sophisticated, coastal, and casual charm, and it has gained widespread appeal both in the United States and around the world, including in Australia.

HAMPTONS STYLE COLOUR PALETTE

Australia has adopted Hamptons Style and as we like to do, have put our own stamp on it so it harmonises with the nation's coastal and laid-back lifestyle. Whether you want to incorporate more Hamptons style furniture into your space or include textiles in the classic Hamptons style colour palette. Rather than relying solely on Hamptons style of grey, blue and white, with our Aussie flair, we use a palette of colours that reflects the hues of Australia.

  • Linen and Off-Whites: Light, soft off-whites and linen colours contribute to the relaxed and inviting ambience of the Australian Hamptons style. Earthy, natural shades are reminiscent of Australian beaches and can be used to bring warmth to the décor. Crisp white helps create a light and airy feel, reminiscent of coastal living.
  • Soft, calming blue tones are often used to evoke the coastal essence of the Hamptons style while complementing the Australian seaside landscapes.
  • Neutral greys, ranging from warm to cool tones, add depth and sophistication to the interiors and exteriors.
  • Green hues represent nature and the sea, providing a refreshing accent to the overall colour scheme.
  • Deep navy blue is often used as an accent colour, providing a sense of elegance and contrast to the predominantly light palette.
  • Natural wood tones, such as oak and teak, are essential in Australian Hamptons interiors to bring in a sense of warmth and grounding.

The use of these colours creates a sense of freshness and openness, reflecting a beachy ambience.

HAMPTONS STYLE FURNITURE

Hamptons style furniture is often a mix of classic and contemporary pieces. Slip-covered sofas and armchairs in neutral colours are popular choices for creating a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.

Hamptons style furniture often features simple, clean lines with classic silhouettes. The goal is to create a timeless and elegant look that doesn't feel overly formal or fussy, which is perfect for the Australian lifestyle.

Hamptons style embraces the use of natural materials such as wood, rattan, bamboo, and linen. These materials create a warm and organic feel that complements the coastal theme. Wicker and rattan furniture are frequently found in Hamptons inspired interiors. These materials add texture, an organic element and a touch of tropical flair to the space.

Soft and comfortable textiles like linen, cotton, and natural fibres are used for upholstery, bedding, and cushions. Layering these textiles adds depth and cosiness to the spaces while keeping the ambience relaxed and inviting.

Furniture arrangement is usually focused on creating open and airy spaces that allow natural light to flow freely, enhancing the breezy coastal vibe. As Australia enjoys a mild climate in many regions, there is an emphasis on creating a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living spaces.
