Whatever inspiration you’re after…. a new recipe to wow the family, a little bit of help making the perfect bed, styling a sideboard, some lifestyle articles or what’s new at Provincial, our Journal will bring you stories to brighten your day.

You can never have too much storage in your home, and when it comes to the dining room, storage space is no exception. Keeping things close at hand is the key to easy entertaining. Some items like cutlery, napery and crockery can be kept out of sight but still within easy reach while pretty plates, glasses and bowls might warrant pride of place and be on display.
To decide which dining room storage option is best for your home, consider your lifestyle, the size of your dining space and of course, your style preferences.
Here are a few storage suggestions with a special mention of some of our favourite furniture pieces, all of which will add valuable storage to your dining room storage.
SIDEBOARDS
This practical furniture piece will serve as a valuable ally in keeping your dining room organised which is why it's one of the most popular choices for dining room storage.
A sideboard provides plenty of storage – whether it’s a version with cupboards or with drawers and cupboards, they all have a large, flat surface for creating a display, or for serving food during meals. It’s perfect for storing everything – cutlery, napery, crockery, candleholders and everything you may need to set the perfect table – how handy would it be in your home?
Our Coventry Sideboard is a superb example, with four handy drawers and four doors, hiding a centre shelf so there’s plenty of room for storage, and it comes in three fabulous finishes – white, black and natural oak – so there’s one to suit any colour scheme.
CONSOLE TABLES
If you have read some of our other Journal articles- you will know how much we love a console table. They’re perfect in dining room storage as it has the same flat surface as a sideboard for creating a visual display with candles, flowers, a lamp or whatever you need to keep close at hand. It has a more “open” feel and look, so it can be a perfect choice for a smaller space.
Some of our console tables such as the Elm Sofa Table or the Albany Console Table have drawers, which are perfect for cutlery or napery, or the more open Monto Petite Console Table – superbly simple, but still practical, and it’s easy to add some baskets on the lower shelf for extra out of sight, but easy to access storage.
While not a console table, our Bellarto Bench works against a wall in a dining room, providing a shelf to stack plates or pop baskets for the storage of napery, and it’s on wheels so you can move it into another room – how handy is that?
CABINETS
A cabinet can be an eye-catching choice for dining room storage, as they usually have glass doors to showcase your fine crockery, glassware, and decorative items. The lower part can feature glass doors, solid doors or drawers for additional storage. This can create a beautiful display in your dining room while ensuring you have your favourite pieces on show and ready to use. Cabinets also add height to the room, creating a focal point, and setting a theme for the dining room.
The Brisbane Cabinet is one of our favourites with its straight, clean lines and ample box-like storage. The straight sides make it easy to put a couple side by side for a statement wall. The lift-up and push-back glass doors are a unique feature and add to the overall appeal.
BUFFET & HUTCHES
A buffet & hutch can combine all the assets of a cabinet but also usually incorporate open shelving, drawers and cupboards. It’s sort of an amalgamation of a sideboard and a cabinet with most of the advantages but without the usable surface area on the top of a sideboard.
It's a great option for dining room storage for its ability to create beautiful displays of treasured mementoes and crockery which can be a great conversation starter over dinners.
Our popular mid-sized Thatch Buffet & Hutch is finished in a crisp white paint on the outside and grey on the inside to showcase your crockery and glasses, behind the glass door. The three solid doors will keep the room tidy, hiding away items you’d rather not keep on show.
BASKETS
Dining room storage comes in all shapes and sizes, and baskets can be a real lifesaver. By incorporating some beautiful handwoven baskets into your dining room, you can add a touch of rustic charm. They can be placed on open shelves, in a cupboard or as a focal point under a console table, providing a discreet storage solution for small items.
Striking a balance between functionality and style is key when selecting the ideal dining room storage solutions for your space. Choose options that align with your personal taste and needs and enjoy a well-organised and inviting dining space whilst optimising the amount of dining room storage!
